These are indicative market ranges for Sydney in 2026, not a quote. What you pay depends on your switchboard, access and what we find. We confirm a fixed price before starting, and it doesn't move.
What moves the price
Whether an outlet already exists. This is the whole question. Replacing a dishwasher in a kitchen that already has one is usually a $150 job. Putting the first dishwasher into a 1970s kitchen that was never designed for one means creating an outlet, and that means access.
Cabinetry access. An outlet in the adjoining cupboard is straightforward. One that needs a cable run behind fixed cabinetry or through a tiled splashback is not.
How loaded the kitchen circuit is. Kitchens accumulate — microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, air fryer. Adding a dishwasher to a circuit already near its limit causes nuisance tripping, so sometimes the honest answer is a new circuit rather than another outlet on the old one.
Whether you're doing other appliances. Attendance is the fixed cost. A kitchen with oven, cooktop, rangehood and dishwasher done in one visit costs far less than four separate call-outs.
Common questions
How much does it cost to install a dishwasher?
$150–$280 to connect to an existing suitable outlet. $220–$400 if a new outlet is needed, or $450–$800 where a new circuit has to be run. Plumbing for water and waste is separate, typically $150–$400.
Do I need an electrician or a plumber?
For a first-time installation, both — us for the outlet, a plumber for the tap and waste. For a straight replacement where everything already exists, often neither.
Where should the outlet go?
In the adjoining cupboard rather than directly behind the machine, so it can be isolated without pulling the dishwasher out. It matters the first time something leaks.
Can I install a dishwasher myself?
Sliding a plug-in machine into a space that already has an outlet, tap and waste is a homeowner job. Creating the outlet is electrical installation work and isn't.
Why would I need a whole new circuit?
Because the existing kitchen circuit is already carrying a lot. Adding to it causes nuisance tripping, which is worse than paying for the circuit once.
Is it cheaper during a kitchen renovation?
Substantially. Running a cable through an open wall is trivial; running it through finished cabinetry and tiling is not.
