How much does oven and cooktop installation cost?

Installing a wall oven on a suitable existing circuit costs $180–$450 in Sydney. Cooktops run $200–$650. Induction usually needs a new dedicated 32A circuit, which adds $450–$900 — and a switchboard upgrade if the board is full.

These are indicative market ranges for Sydney in 2026, not a quote. What you pay depends on your switchboard, access and what we find. We confirm a fixed price before starting, and it doesn't move.

Why induction changes the number

This is the reason oven quotes and cooktop quotes look so different, and it catches out most Hills kitchen renovations.

A ceramic or radiant cooktop draws a moderate load and often shares a circuit. An induction cooktop can pull considerably more, in sudden bursts as elements modulate, and most full-size units specify a dedicated 32A circuit run directly from the switchboard.

So an induction install is usually two things: a new circuit ($450–$900), and — if your board has no spare way — a switchboard upgrade first ($1,500–$3,500). In 1970s and 80s Hills homes the board is full more often than not.

The way to avoid an unpleasant surprise is to check before delivery day. The appliance's rating plate and a photo of your switchboard are enough for us to tell you where you stand in a few minutes.

Common questions

How much does it cost to install an oven?

$180–$450 for a wall oven onto a suitable existing circuit. If a new circuit is needed, add $450–$900.

Does induction need a dedicated circuit?

Almost always — commonly a 32A circuit run directly from the switchboard. This is the main reason induction installations cost more than people expect, and the reason the delivery team can't connect it.

What if my switchboard is full?

The board has to be upgraded before the new circuit can be added, typically $1,500–$3,500. It's common in older Hills homes. Send a photo of your board before you buy and we'll tell you.

Can I install a cooktop myself?

No. Connecting cooking appliances to fixed wiring is electrical installation work and requires a licensed electrician in NSW.

Is it cheaper to do the oven and cooktop together?

Yes. One attendance, and the circuits get planned as a set rather than squeezed in one at a time.

What about gas cooktops?

Gas connection is a licensed gas fitter's work. We'll handle the electrical side — ignition supply, rangehood, lighting — but you'll need a gas fitter for the gas.

How do I find out what circuit my cooktop needs?

It's on the rating plate and in the installation manual as a maximum connected load. Send us a photo of that and your switchboard.
