What we actually see in Glenhaven
Glenhaven is the transition zone. Blocks of one to two acres, houses set well back, almost always something else on the property — a shed, a pool, a studio, sometimes a horse arena or a pump.
The mistake we see most often here is that Glenhaven properties get wired like large suburban blocks rather than small acreage ones. A submain run 60 or 80 metres to a shed, sized on current alone, works perfectly for lights and fails the moment there's a real load on it. Voltage drop doesn't care that the block is only two acres.
The houses themselves are mostly 1980s and 90s, so they carry the standard profile of that era — halogen downlights, boards with breakers and often no RCDs, and not enough circuits. But because the properties do more, the load has grown faster than in a comparable suburban home: pool equipment, shed power, irrigation, sometimes a second dwelling.
Glenhaven is also on the edge of the outage belt. Not as exposed as Kenthurst or Glenorie, but noticeably more than Castle Hill, and enough that backup power is a reasonable conversation rather than an unusual one.

Considerably. At that distance cable has to be sized for voltage drop rather than current alone, which usually means going up two or three sizes. It's the difference between a shed that runs a welder and one that doesn't.
Is my Glenhaven property acreage or suburban, electrically?
Acreage, in every way that matters. Distance drives cable sizing, you probably have outbuildings and possibly a pump, and you're exposed to longer outages. Wiring it like a large suburban block is the common and expensive mistake.
Do I need backup power on two acres?
Worth considering, particularly if you're on tank water or have a pool and stock to think about. Glenhaven isn't as exposed as the properties further out, but outages here run longer than in Castle Hill.
Why does my pool equipment trip when the shed is in use?
Usually because they're sharing a circuit or a submain that's marginal for both. Pool equipment really wants its own circuit — it makes fault finding easier and it stops one problem taking out the other.
Can you do the house and the shed in one visit?
Yes, and it's much more efficient. Attendance is the fixed cost, and seeing the whole property at once means we can plan circuits as a set rather than one at a time.
