What we actually see in Castle Hill

Castle Hill is largely 1960s–1980s brick veneer on generous blocks, and a very large share of it is still running the original switchboard. That means ceramic rewireable fuses, or an early circuit-breaker board with no residual current devices at all — which has not met the requirement for new and altered circuits for a long time.

The second thing we see constantly is downlight retrofits from the 2000s. Halogen downlights were pushed into ceilings that were later insulated, without maintaining clearance. That's a heat problem, and converting to LED with IC-4 rated fittings fixes both the fire risk and the running cost.

Newer townhouse and apartment stock near the Metro has the opposite problem: a compliant board, but very few spare circuits, which becomes a real constraint the moment someone wants an induction cooktop or an EV charger.

Castle Hill questions

How quickly can you get to Castle Hill?

Castle Hill is central to our patch, so it's one of the quicker suburbs for us to reach. Call and we'll tell you what we've got available.

My Castle Hill home still has ceramic fuses. Is that illegal?

Not illegal to have, but it's well behind current standards and it means you have no RCD protection. Any new or altered circuit has to be RCD protected, so in practice most upgrades trigger a board replacement.

Can you add an EV charger to a 1970s Castle Hill house?

Usually yes, but the switchboard often needs upgrading first, and the supply capacity needs checking. We'll tell you which of those apply before quoting.

Do you work on Castle Hill townhouses and strata?

Yes. Strata work needs owners corporation approval for anything on common property, and we can deal with the strata manager directly.
