Solar installation by an electrician, not a call centre

We're the people who come back. That's a different proposition to the cheapest quote you'll get this week.

Why we do solar the way we do

Our solar work started as repair work. We spend a lot of time fixing systems installed between 2012 and 2020 by companies that no longer exist — failed inverters, corroded DC isolators, undersized cable, roof penetrations that leak, and paperwork nobody can produce.

That gives us a fairly clear view of what matters at year eight, which is a different list from what matters at the point of sale:

  • The DC isolator and its enclosure. Widely installed with enclosures that let water in. It's a known Australian failure mode and it has caused fires.
  • Roof penetrations and mounting. Done badly, you find out when the ceiling stains.
  • Cable routing and protection. DC cable degraded by UV or rubbing on a roof sheet is a problem you can't see from the ground.
  • Inverter brand and local support. The cheapest inverter is cheap partly because nobody will be around to warrant it.
  • Whether the switchboard was actually addressed, or the system was hung off a board that was already full.

We'd rather quote a system that's still working properly in ten years than win on price today.

An honest word about price

We will not be the cheapest quote you get. National solar retailers buy at volumes we don't and run on margins that assume a certain rate of walking away from problems.

If price is the only consideration, that's a legitimate choice and you should take it — but know what you're buying: a system that is someone's problem for the warranty period and yours afterwards.

What we offer instead is a local electrician who installed it, is still here, answers the phone, and can also deal with your switchboard, your battery, your EV charger and your backup circuits as one coherent installation rather than four contractors blaming each other.

Solar installation questions

Are you cheaper than the big solar retailers?

No, and we won't pretend otherwise. We're a local electrical contractor, not a volume retailer. What you get instead is the person who installed it still being contactable in five years.

What size system should I get?

Sized to your consumption pattern rather than to roof space. Oversizing to export at current feed-in rates rarely pays back the way it did a decade ago — using your own generation, through a battery or a heat pump or an EV, is where the value is now.

What rebates apply?

STCs reduce the upfront price of the solar system itself, applied by the installer. Batteries attract the separate federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount — see our rebate guide for the current position.

Should I add a battery at the same time?

If you're going to add one within a couple of years, doing it together saves a second visit and lets us design backup circuits properly from the start. If it's genuinely undecided, we can install solar in a way that keeps the option straightforward.

What happens if my inverter fails in ten years?

We replace it. That's a large part of our existing work — see our solar repairs page. It's also why we care which inverter goes on your roof.

Do you do commercial solar?

Small commercial, yes. Large-scale installations are a different business with different equipment, and we'd point you elsewhere rather than pretend.
